Joyce Kwon started studying cello at the age of 7 with Hyung-Ah Kim in Korea. From 2002 to 2006, she had performed in various concerts with Celli Ensemble and won gold prizes at the string competitions. In 2007, after moving to California, she joined Contra Costa Youth Orchestra. Eventually, she made her way to San Domenico High School and joined the Virtuoso Program and the chamber music program. In her freshman year, the Virtuoso Program participated in ASTA 2010 National Orchestra Festival and won the Grand Champion Award. Also, she studied with Tamara Boland at the San Francisco Conservatory and attended to several string chamber festivals, such as Summer Music West, Hawaii Perfoming Arts Festival, and California Summer Music. In her Junior year, she became the principal cellist in the Virtuoso Program and kept her position in her Senior year also. Currently, she is studying with Irene Sharp, a world-renowned teacher on the faculties of the Mannes College of Music and the University of California at Berkeley.
